What he didn’t know was that it wasn’t the fireworks being considerate,
but rather Qin Chengyu, who had arranged for the fireworks, being thoughtful.
Qin Chengyu’s eyes carried a doting smile, yet his gaze never strayed from the dazzling fireworks for even a moment.
The fireworks were grand, and so was his secret love.
Nian Jinsui was watching the fireworks, but in Qin Chengyu’s eyes,
the only thing he saw was Nian Jinsui.
“Hmm,”
Qin Chengyu responded softly.
“Indeed, they are beautiful.”
As the night sky returned to calm, Nian Jinsui looked toward Qin Chengyu.
“Chengyu, Happy New Year! Do you have any New Year’s wishes?”
The last time, during his birthday, Qin Chengyu wasn’t prepared.
But this time, he had already thought about it.
“My New Year’s wish is for every year to bring you joy and every day to bring you peace.”
Nian Jin sui gave him a thumbs-up.
“Well said! My wish is the same as yours. May everything go smoothly, and all things work out well.”
Qin Chengyu remained silent.
In truth, their wishes weren’t the same.
Because his wish was—
Nian Jinsui.
Perhaps because life had been so comfortable and pleasant, Nian Jinsui felt time was flying by too quickly. Winter break was almost over, and it was time to prepare for the new semester.
However, at this time, Nian Jinsui received completely unexpected news.
“You’re going to be a big brother!”
Hearing Nian Yixin’s words, Nian Jinsui froze in place. What was going on now?
This wasn’t in the novel!
The plot developments were becoming more and more unexpected.
After a moment, Nian Jinsui confirmed again, “Did you go to the hospital for a check-up?”
“Yes,” Nian Yixin replied. “I went because my heat cycle was late, and that’s when I found out.”
Seeing how shocked Nian Jinsui looked, Nian Yixin worriedly asked, “Jinsui, do you still not like the idea of having a younger sibling?”
From the way Nian Yixin spoke, it seemed like Nian Jinsui had said something in the past about not liking younger siblings. Fearing any misunderstanding, Nian Jinsui quickly said, “Not at all! I’m just too surprised. I don’t dislike the idea one bit! Actually, having a sibling is great—really! I was just immature before. If I said anything bad, please don’t take it to heart, Dad.”
Many years ago, Nian Yixin and Lin Shuqian had planned to have a second child and even asked for Nian Jinsui’s opinion.
At the time, Nian Jinsui reacted strongly, saying he didn’t like the idea of a sibling taking away his inheritance and affection. The resulting argument lasted a long time, and Lin Shuqian and Nian Yixin eventually gave up on their plan for a second child.
Seeing Nian Jinsui’s sincerity now, Nian Yixin finally felt at ease and smiled. “Actually, this is because of you.”
Nian Jinsui was confused. “Huh?”
“It’s because, on New Year’s Eve, you prepared so many things for us—but you didn’t prepare any small umbrellas…”
Nian Jinsui was embarrassed. “You didn’t have any yourselves?”
Lin Shuqian explained from the side, “We just happened to run out that day. We had planned to go to bed early after watching the Spring Festival Gala. But since you were so thoughtful, of course, we couldn’t let your efforts go to waste.”
Nian Jinsui: …
So that’s what happened.
No wonder it wasn’t in the original storyline.
“Does that mean you won’t go to M Country anymore?”
Nian Yixin nodded. “Actually, your father and I had already discussed this. We’ve decided not to go and to stay home to spend more time with you.”
Nian Jinsui was overjoyed. “That’s great news!”
Nian Jinsui’s happiness was contagious. Lin Shuqian patted his shoulder reassuringly and said, “Jinsui, just remember, whether you have a sibling or not, and no matter what happens, your father and I will never love you any less.”
“Got it.” Nian Jinsui felt a warmth in his heart. “I’ll remember that, Father.”
In the second semester of his third year, there were fewer classes, but everyone seemed busier. Some were interning, some preparing for graduate school exams, and others planning to study abroad. Everyone had their own plans and their own busyness.
Chu Hejun was busy preparing for his concert tour, and Nian Jinsui hardly had a chance to see him.
Ye Kang was also interning at his father’s company and had stopped reaching out to Nian Jinsui. Their relationship gradually became distant.
Meanwhile, Ning Liang’an joined a startup project team to participate in an entrepreneurship competition and became incredibly busy.
With his god’s-eye view, Nian Jinsui knew everything clearly. Ning Liang’an was indeed ambitious and hardworking. The project he participated in even won a national first prize.
This project happened to overlap with a project Chu Group was advancing. Chu Heting admired their innovative ideas and sought to collaborate with them.
At first, Chu Heting didn’t know Ning Liang’an was part of the project. It wasn’t until the signing day that he was pleasantly surprised to discover that Ning Liang’an was far more outstanding than he had imagined.
Through their collaboration, the two got to know each other better, their feelings deepened, and eventually, they naturally entered a relationship.
This part of the storyline didn’t involve Nian Jinsui, and the system didn’t issue any tasks. Nian Jinsui was happy to stay out of it. As long as he completed the monthly evaluations of his “damage” to Qin Chengyu, there was nothing else to worry about.
With more free time, Nian Jinsui even convinced Qin Chengyu to take a driving test with him.
Guys generally have some interest in cars. In his original world, Nian Jinsui already knew how to drive. After his foot injury healed and he got his license, he no longer liked taking a driver along when going out.
When he had no classes, Nian Jinsui stayed home with Nian Yixin, practiced violin, or played games with Qin Chengyu. Occasionally, they would go out for meals and shopping as a family, including Qin Chengyu. Life was comfortable and leisurely.
“Father, Dad, I’m going to Chu Hejun’s piano concert tonight, so I’ll be back late,” Nian Jinsui said during lunch.
Nian Yixin asked, “Are you going alone?”
“Yeah, Chu Hejun only gave me one ticket.”
Nian Yixin glanced at Qin Chengyu and immediately had an idea. “Since your father and I want to watch a movie tonight anyway, Chengyu might feel bored staying home alone. Why don’t you take him along and buy an extra ticket?”
Nian Jinsui thought about it and found it feasible. He asked Qin Chengyu, “Do you want to go?”
Qin Chengyu gave a concise answer: “Yes.”
“Great, let’s go together then,” Nian Jinsui agreed happily.
Lin Shuqian brought up another topic. “I heard that the project Qin Chenglu is in charge of is doing exceptionally well. If nothing goes wrong, Chairman Qin will likely confirm him as the new heir of Qin Group soon.”
Hearing this, Nian Jinsui scoffed. “He’ll never be the heir to Qin Group.”
